Christen and Lisa found themselves in a space they didn’t quite belong – they joined forces, to create a charity and community, for others with genetic alterations. You have your medical professionals to talk about surgery, recovery, pain meds. You have BRCA+ Chat to talk to you about T-Rex arms, wiping your butt, and delving into dating with no nipples and night sweats. From cold implants, to a warm heart – BRCA+ Chat scoops you up, like the little hug you needed. Find out more about the lived experience of a genetic alteration, and the charity that was formed by two women who met on social media.
This session will look at rare cancers and the issues or difficulties those diagnosed face. This will include some information about the rare cancer, the main treatments and any research or updates to treatment (including the difficulties around clinical trials and funding/recruitment) and a panel discussion around how healthcare professionals can best support our patients.
Sakoon Through Cancer is a breast cancer charity providing culturally appropriate, tailored support to South Asian women. We provide awareness and educational opportunities to schools, businesses and community organisations, leading to earlier diagnosis and therefore improved survival outcomes. We work alongside expert-by-experience volunteers who are helping us to inform and drive the change needed to provide each and every patient with culturally appropriate patient centred care whilst living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
In 2022 Macmillan undertook a survey of cancer nurses with 199 respondents. The knowledge and education questions have been further analysed to understand needs. Macmillan developed a practical guide to support cancer nurses with the genomics toolkit and have worked with the NHSE national genomics education team to share the content. The session will cover the results of the survey and how they informed the development of the toolkit, what is included in the toolkit, as well as next steps for the toolkit.
A multi-disciplinary approach to immunotherapy for older cancer patients involves a collaborative team of healthcare professionals, including oncologists, geriatricians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other AHPs. This method is essential for addressing the unique physiological and psychological needs of older patients. The team tailors treatment plans to individual health conditions, manages side effects, and provides comprehensive support, encompassing medical, nutritional, and emotional care.

This session will aim to not only discuss the difficulties that can be experienced with communities that are known to be at high risk of developing prostate cancer, but also those communities who may not be at greater risk but are often not thought about sufficiently and are this at risk of not being aware of the need to be tested when appropriate.
In this presentation, I will delve into the transformative potential of CAR T cell therapy in the field of solid tumours. Beginning with an overview of CAR T cell therapy and its impact on cancer treatment, I will navigate through the distinct challenges posed by solid tumours, including their heterogeneity and the complexities of the tumour microenvironment. I will spotlight breakthroughs in preclinical and clinical trials demonstrating the feasibility and efficacy of CAR T cells against solid tumours, while also addressing toxicity considerations. This presentation also explores strategies to enhance CAR T cell efficacy within the tumour microenvironment. Looking ahead, I will describe the potential future of CAR T cell therapy in solid tumours with optimisation through collaborative efforts, innovative designs, and combination therapies.
Join this session to find out more about the newly launched online nutrition course, The Restore Programme and see how this fantastic resource can help your patients with anything to do with nutrition throughout their cancer journey.

All children and young people presenting with cancer in England are now eligible for whole genome sequencing on the NHS. Here we will present the experience of two centres who were early adopters of routine WGS, alongside results from our study assessing it's clinical value when compared with current standard of care molecular testing.
The overarching aim of this project is to improve patient experience of cancer drug treatment pre-treatment consultations by developing a group intervention. The group supports 8 patients and their families to learn about their forthcoming cancer treatments and is supported by an e-learning resource for patients to refer to before and after the group session. The group delivers a high-quality intervention focused on engagement in care to manage and report symptoms. The group will also save nursing time from delivering 1-hour sessions with each patient.
