Nicola Freeman
Consultant Radiographer (Head & Neck),
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
I qualified as a therapeutic radiographer in 2003, progressing to superintendent radiographer in 2015. Having a strong interest in head & neck cancer, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to incorporate a head & neck specialist role funded by MacMillan cancer care alongside my other duties. This role involved supporting patients and their families throughout and beyond active treatment, managing acute toxicities and providing practical and emotional support. I became an independent prescriber to support this role, and completed my masters degree in 2021 focussing the dissertation on prehabilitation for HNCa. In 2022 I was appointed as a consultant radiographer to support the oncologists to improve the efficiency of the pathway throughout our service. I am very passionate about enabling service users to optimise their health and well-being pre-, and during treatment, and highly motivated to facilitate a better quality of life post-treatment. I love working as part of the wider MDT and learning new skills to support patients along their journey.
