Sairanne Wickers

Sairanne Wickers

Consultant Breast Therapeutic Radiographer, University College London Hospitals
Sairanne has been in-post as a consultant breast therapeutic radiographer at UCLH for 8 years. After qualifying as a therapeutic radiographer in 2002, Sairanne specialised in radiotherapy pre-treatment in 2005, and a few years later was offered the opportunity to explore advanced practice in the field of breast radiotherapy planning. Her Masters Degree was heavily focussed around the topic of breast cancer radiotherapy, and she was subsequently appointed to her current consultant role shortly after this was awarded in 2016. Sairanne's consultant role involves working independently and autonomously within the breast radiotherapy service at UCLH; accepting new patient referrals, planning, prescribing and approving radiation therapy for breast cancer. She leads the technique development and mentors a team of specialist breast radiographers. With reference to other roles within the 4 pillars of consultant practice, she has a key role in research, development and education on both a local and national level. Examples include being local PI for the national proton trial PARABLE; CI for the UCLH randomised controlled trial NEAT; working in an advisory capacity for the SCoR, NICE (national guideline development and review), Breast Cancer Now and the RCR. Sairanne is in her final year of undertaking a PhD at UCL.
