Sam is the Patient and Public Involvement Manager at Bowel Research UK and a PhD student at Teesside University. She is a three-time cancer survivor with constitutional mismatch repair deficiency (CMMRD) due to inheriting Lynch syndrome from both parents. Her experiences of bowel cancer, duodenal cancer, womb cancer, a temporary stoma, an internal pouch, and surgeries including a subtotal colectomy, hysterectomy and Whipple procedure have given her a strong empathy for patient experiences. She is the author of memoir "Gut Feelings: Coping with Cancer and Living with Lynch Syndrome" and the only book currently published on CMMRD, "the CMMRD book".
